Burra Gorge
This image Golden Crops is shot right next to the Burra Gorge rest area.
Being woken up just at dawn to the sound of birds tweeting is natures natural alarm clock. This is a great way to start the day especially after a long drive the the previous day. The Gorge its self is lovely but for me the adjecent farm land and this camping area with its tall river gums and golden light at dawn is something special on its own. I have been camping hear for many years it offers a good safe place to camp which is easily reached from Melbourne.
Burra Gorge is one of my favourite camping locations it is near the South Australian town of Burr, made famous by the 1979 move “Breaker Morant” which is set in South Africa at the height of he Bore War about the court martial of Breaker Morant, played by Edward Wordward. This camping location is ideal for me as it is half way between he Flinders Ranges and Mildura. Burra is very special in its own right you can easily spend a good half a day here and enjoy the historical sites including the old copper mine, Jail and of course to underground brewery.
