Rocky Valley Dam, Falls Creek, Victoria.

With a raging blizzard for two days I could not resist the urge and get out on my cross country skis and discover just how beautiful the area around Rocky Valley Dam near Falls Creek in Victoria is.

The Beauty of the Australian alps especially around Falls Creek is hard to beat in my opinion.  I try and spend at least one week every year in this locality, the changing weather with the background of Rocky Valley Dam  offers great opportunities to the landscape photographer who is prepared to go out in any weather conditon. Australia is a diverse country with such biodiversity  having climates ranging from desert – tropical – alpine.

Falls Creek is an alpine ski resort, in the Victorian alps. It is located in the Alpine National Park in the Australian Alps, about 350 kilometres (a good 5 hours  by road) from Melbourne, with the nearest town Mount Beauty, some 31 km down the hill. Rocky Valley dam is featured in the photograph and was built as part of the Hydro scheme of the 1950’s. For my money it is the most beautiful ski resort in Victoria, particularly if yo cross country ski.
