Description

The largest man made lake in Australia, lake Argyle.

Trying to find the right light in a landscape photograph is everything. I only had a limited time at Lake Argyle and had to make the most of it. I was looking for that something special, so I decided to take a lake cruse which ended in sunset. I was hoping for a perfect blue lake with a golden sun setting over it.

The curse started with a dead calm lake on a very overcast afternoon (just terrible for a landscape photographer). It ended in this unbelievable red orange cloud combination, I could not believe my luck when it came to capturing this image back in July 2010. Earlier that afternoon I thought I was wasting my time and money as no good photograph could be captured, just how wrong was I. The colours I saw are exactly as they appear on this website as I never use coloured filters or photoshop techniques to enhance my work. I am a purist, as I see it is how it is.

After I took this photo I went for a swim in the lake swimming under the 10 meter length of the catamaran between it’s two hulls.

Lake Argyle is Australia’s largest artificial lake, and is part of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme (construction commenced in the 1970’s) and is located near the East Kimberley (Western Australia) town of Kununurra.

Lloyd Howlett’s Australian landscape limited edition photographs are printed on archival quality canvas (designed to last well in to the next century and beyond) individually numbered and signed. Making each print completely individual.
