Old Ford trucks in northern Queensland
In far North Queensland I found the old mining town of Chillagoe. One Old timer had dedicated his life to restoring old Ford Trucks . In his restored collection he had the likes of a 1965 Falcon Futura, Super Deluxe Coupe, Mustang, 1942 Dodge 4×4, 1940 Blitz, 1971 Cortina and what appeared to be over 30 slowly rusting trucks and cars ranging from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. A truly amazing find.
Just 140 kilometres west of Mareeba (near Cairns) , the former mining town of Chillagoe is to be found tracing the heady days of the 1870’s to the 1920’s mining boom. The town features early twentith century mining fantastic limestone caves. Which I cant urge you strongly enough to take a tour these caves are just stunning. If you get a chance take on of the cave tours, Itook the one which exited via a spiral stair case , amazing. Then you re discovered the heat of the day.
The current population of Chillagoe is around 200 a far cry from the hundreds of people who lived there during the mining boom.
Photo is just one of many “Forgotten Fords. ” Which were featured in this local Museum.
